The Functional Capacity Evaluation (FCE) is used primarily to determine an individuals work ability following an injury or accident.  If a worker is unable to return to work following an injury or accident, the FCE can help determine what level of work the individual is capable of performing.

The FCE is approximately 4-5 hours in duration and can typically be completed within one visit.  The full evaluation will include standard evaluation measurements for Range of Motion and Strength in addition to tests of coordination, dexterity, materials handling, and overall physical conditioning related to the job classification and duties.

Central Missouri Physical Therapy compares results of the FCE with standards set by the Department of Labor.  Recommendations are provided regarding current physical condition and appropriateness for a safe return to work or participation in a work conditioning, hardening, or other program.

Individualized

The therapists at Central Missouri Physical Therapy compare the individual’s capabilities with the physical demands of the job.  We can compare the results with either a functional job description or by an on-site job analysis.

Objective

We use objective language that will focus on an individual’s abilities rather than on work restrictions.

Thorough

Physical abilities and limitations are explained in musculoskeletal terms, listing the reason for any limitation.

Reliable

Our FCE monitors consistency between subjective and objective data to identify whether or not the injured worker’s performance was reliable.

Comprehensive

Utilization of the FCE information can ensure an injured worker has been placed at the safest level of work.
